The Friends of Bridport Museum are an active and enthusiastic group who support us

The Friends was established in 2002 by a group of people who wanted to play an active part in the life of their local museum.

Over the last few years interest in the Friends has grown and it has become a vibrant local organisation with approximately two hundred members.

We hold an array of activities and events. There are usually three to four public events each year, an excursion to a stately home, museum or other places of interest, a Christmas Party and there is also the chance to work behind the scenes in the Museum.

What else can you do?

Friends play an essential part in Bridport Museum by volunteering in the Local History Centre and in other Museum activities.

Some members help with documentary research which is carried out on a regular basis at Bridport Museum's Local History History in Gundry Lane.

Interested members are encouraged to undertake or assist in carrying outresearch projects on many aspects of Bridport life.

Fund raising is an important part of the activities of the Friends - to purchase items for the Museum and to provide display equipment, documentation for indexing and cataloguing of the collections, etc.

Active members have the opportunity to take part in a range of voluntary activities such as helping with the distribution of newsletters, packaging greetings cards, serving on book and card stalls etc. Others may prefer simply to attend meetings and social events or just keep in touch through the regular free publications.

Whatever your inclination, by joining the Friends of Bridport Museum, you will be making an important contribution towards preserving the rich heritage of our historic market town.
