These can be booked to support classroom learning. They contain a variety of original and replica artefacts and are themed around National Curriculum topics.
Several of the boxes are designed to support a visit to the Town Hall. This is indicated in the cataloger. They can be borrowed to use on a visit to the Town Hall. Visiting the Town Hall is free, but you need to book via the Town Council.
Each school can borrow one box for three weeks at a time, subject to availability. In exceptional circumstances we can lend more than one box or set so please ask.
Many of the objects lend themselves to handling sessions. They do not have information labels attached, since this can limit exploration and deduction by those using them. Instead, you will find a set of Teachers’ Notes with each box.
CARE: Please take the utmost care whilst using the boxes, and ensure everything goes back into its correct bag where labelled. In fact, it is good practise to teach children to handle things with care, imagining they were a museum curator, to understand that things need to be regarded with respect in order for them to last.
Boxes can be collected from the Local History Centre in Gundry Lane on Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm. Please ring to let us know what time you will pick them up.
Please also arrange a time to return them after the 3 weeks are up.
If you have a car, you are welcome to pull into our carpark whilst collecting the box (some of which are heavy).
We reserve the right to withhold individual items for use in exhibitions or handling sessions when necessary.
An evaluation form is included with each box, we are extremely grateful for feedback, both to present to our funders, and to help us develop our services.
Boxes are £30 each for the 3 weeks. Payment can be by cheque or cash. Cheques should be made payable to Bridport Museum Trust.
We hope that you will enjoy using the collection!
