BRIDPORT MUSEUM TRUST

In November 2002, after 28 years of ownership, West Dorset District Council handed over the building, collections and staff to the Bridport Museum Trust, an independent charitable trust set up to manage the organisation. The Council continues to provide funding and support to the Trust.

The Bridport Museum Trust meet at least once every three months to discuss the management of the Museum and the Local History Centre.

Museum Trust

The Bridport Museum Trust aims:

To tell the story of Bridport from its beginning to the present day;

To provide a positive and accessible approach to learning to encourage interest in the rich local heritage of Bridport and the surrounding areas;

To tell the ongoing story of how the rope and net-making industries has developed our unique heritage; - To develop, manage and preserve the Museum 's archive and permanent collections;

To offer the community and visitors to the area an enjoyable experience by stimulating and engaging their curiousity and imagination;

To attain the highest possible recognised quality standards in all areas of operation and activity.
