Village Project
We are launching a new project to strengthen its links with the villages in its ‘patch’. The aim is to make village inhabitants to feel that the museum belongs just as much to them as to the town. The idea is to develop relationships which will improve our ongoing understanding of the way of village life both past and present.
We have has selected Shipton Gorge and Symondsbury as its two ‘pilot’ villages. This Autumn there will be special events where the Museum will ‘travel’ to each of the pilot villages. Residents will be invited to look at old photographs and artefacts, talk and share memories over a cup of tea. The Museum wants to record memories before they are lost forever.
We also want children to be involved and hope to work with local schools to record the memories and stories from local children as well as older members of the community.
We hope to develop this project over the next few years and would welcome enquiries from people who feel like they might want to get involved.
