Ropewalk Fair

Event details

Sunday 13th May, 11:00am - Sunday 13th May, 4:00pm

£3 per family

Entrance to the fair is by a programme on the gate which costs £2 per adult, or £3 for a family.

The Millenium Green will be abuzz with live music from local bands, food stalls, rope, net and craft demonstrations and sporting activities such as tennis and football in the arena.

2018 marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, and this year’s theme will focus on how Bridport’s rope and net making industry contributed to the war effort.

The Ropewalk Fair is generously supported by Huck Nets

There are so many ways for everyone to enjoy the day:

  • Jump around, scramble, climb and generally be energetic! … try the Rockburn ‘blind rope trail’, see if you can Beat the Goalie, win at tennis or be crowned the strongest team in Bridport in the tug-of-war!
  • Get creative: print your own bag and make a ‘ropey’ friendship bracelet.
  • Get hands- on with history: visit a real WWI army vehicle, watch watch how rifle pull-throughs are made and have a go at knot-tying and rope making.
  • Help commemorate 100 years since the end of World War I: make some poppies for the rope to go around the Armistice Tree in Bucky Doo Square.
  • Explore the heritage of local rope, net and sailcloth in the heritage tent with Crewkerne Museum, Beaminster Museum and Dawes Twineworks, West Coker.

Enjoy all of these activities whilst tapping along to some fabulous local bands:

11am-11.30am: Jurassic Drifters Ukelele Band

11.45am- 12.15pm: Garry ‘Slide Man’ Smith

12.30pm-1pm: Elfintale

1.15pm-1.45pm: Rosie Smith

2.30-3.30pm: Phoenix Pop Club

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s more…

These events and more have all been made possible made possible by money raised by National Lottery players.
