Exhibition: The Bridport Branch – A Railway Remembered

August to December 2025

2025 marks 50 years since the closure of the Bridport Branch Railway — a line that once connected communities and shaped the landscape of the Bridport area. To commemorate this anniversary, and as part of Rail200, the nationwide celebration marking 200 years since the beginning of the railways in Britain, Bridport Museum is presenting a temporary exhibition celebrating  the Bridport Branch line.

Although few physical traces remain today, the  line was once a vital link from Maiden Newton to West Bay, serving the stations at Bridport, Bridport East Street, and West Bay, as well as the villages of Powerstock and Toller.

The exhibition features items from our own collections,  loaned from the community and archive footage courtesy of  Windrose Media Trust.  Thanks are also due to the expertise of Prof Colin Divall and Gerry Beale, author of ‘The Bridport Branch’
