Our Story

Bridport Museum is a fully Accredited Museum in Bridport, Dorset, on the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast. It is managed by Bridport Museum Trust Ltd, a registered charitable company.

The organisation comprises the local history centre with extensive archives and Bridport Museum and its collection, including a nationally significant rope and net collection.

The Museum has a long history in the town, originally founded as an Art Gallery and Museum in 1932 . The museum underwent a major £1.3 million Heritage Lottery-funded redevelopment in 2016–17. Between 2019 and 2023 our collections review project called ‘The Right Stuff’ (TRS)  was awarded £101,100 from the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund.
